January Monthly Member Highlight:

Sweet Caroline

ABA January Monthly Member Highlight:

Sweet Caroline

Every month we sit down with one of our amazing ABA members to get to know them a little better! For January, wespoke with Maureen Vaccaro, co-owner of Sweet Caroline.  We ask each member the same questions, providing an opportunity for our members to highlight the important work that they do in our communities. If you’re an ABA Member and would like to be considered for future Monthly Member Highlights, please reach out to us via email at info@altonbusinessassociation.com

Q:  Tell us about your business?

A:  We are a small family-owned bakery proudly serving residents and visitors of Alton and surrounding communities our sweet and savory goodies and our custom-made cakes by Michelle our baker. Our customers enjoy our café that has plenty of seating where they meet up with friends, “borrow” our wi-fi, or read a book in a quiet space with their freshly brewed Lucas Roasting Company coffee or espresso. Our small gift shop has local products, handmade items, candles, decorations, and gifts for those special occasions.

Q: Tell us about yourself:

A: My background is in Human Resources not a bakery but when the bakery was listed for sale, I thought “why not”, Alton needs this so I talked to my daughter Amanda, and we jumped into the unknown together.

Q:  How did your business get started?

A:  Initially, my sister Caroline, hence Sweet Caroline, started the business in 2021 to serve delicious treats at her restaurants in Wolfeboro, NH. She eventually decided to retire, listed the business for sale, and here we are.

Q:  What has your relationship with the Alton Business Association done for you or
your business?

A:  Meeting and networking with the great people in the community has been a lot of fun! I’ve lived in Alton for about 17 years and really didn’t have opportunities to meet people so I am looking forward to building our relationship with the ABA , Alton, and beyond!

Q:  What do you value most about this community?

A:  Definitely the people! They are so friendly, welcoming, generous, loyal, and they really want us to succeed.

Q: Why did you want to open your business in this community?

A:  I love the area, the people, the lake! I have been vacationing up here since…well a long time ago and when the opportunity came up to own a small part of it, I took it.

Q: What business accomplishment are you most proud of?

A:  Continuing to learn and grow the business over the last 7 months that would not be possible without the support of our truly awesome customers, that we now know by first name! Thank you!!

Q: What does the future hold for you and your business?

A:  Growth. We are committed to growing the bakery, improving the gift shop, and introduce some easy meal options.

Q:  What is one piece of advice you wish you had as a new business member?

A: Contact the state government to answer your questions correctly, not google, your family, or friends. Go directly to the professionals to save you time, money, and frustration to complete and file the necessary paperwork, applications, and everything else there is to know about opening your own business.

Q:  How can people who want to learn more about you or your business get in
touch with you?

A: Visit us during our open hours Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 8am to 3pm and Sundays from 8am to 1pm. If you can’t make these times, let’s talk to find a time that works for both of us. You can call us at 603.875.0263, email sweetcaroline2828@gmail.com, or send us a Facebook message.
